Filtering and Monitoring

Filtering and Monitoring

Schools should provide a safe environment to learn and work, including when online. Filtering and monitoring are both important parts of safeguarding pupils and staff from potentially harmful and inappropriate online material.  Keeping Children Safe in Education updated in September 2023 states that schools should ensure that staff and governors understand how their schools' filtering and monitoring is managed to keep everyone safe.

At Colburn Community Primary School, we use a product called Smoothwall, which is managed by the Local Authority's IT service department called NYES Digital.  Smoothwall is installed across all devices to act as a filter and firewall to block access to unsafe and inappropriate content. The Leadership Team and NYES Digital have access to daily monitoring reports to track any breaches of this policy.
